Unit 1: Copper Mining
Week 1: History of Copper Mining: (Timeline) - Students will learn about early metalworking in North America 7,000 years ago. Students will help each other mine for materials of their choice and recreate an archaeological sites. Students will also use skincraft to make themselves look as though they are native american Indians from the time period.
Week 2: 1771 Alexander Henry Mines Copper on the Keweenaw Peninsula: Students will use Skincraft to look like the early English settlers from 1771 and recreate an English settlement.
Week 3: 1776 Continental Congress - Students will learn about the Continental Congress by creating their own laws and Declaration of Independence. Students will use Skincraft to change their character to be on of the Congress Members.
Week 4: 1800's Advancement of Copper Mining: Students will create their own mining factory and find more mines in Minecraft expanding the current territory. Students will attempt to collect as much mining materials as possible.
Week 5: Washington Monument: Students will learn about the Washington Monument and recreate their own monument using the resources they have mined throughout the past four weeks.
